Arctic Accretionary Terranes – Pearya 2017
Victoria Pease

The allochthonous Pearya Terrane of Northern Ellesmere (yellow arrow).

The circum-Arctic is surrounded by allochthonous terranes, bits and pieces of land that have been moved from their original locations to where they are now found.  Pearya 2017, an expedition organized by German Geological Survey (BGR), investigates this terrane in order to assess what it is made of and where it is originally from.  The multinational expedition is part of a multi-year effort to understand the origins of the Pearya terrane.
