The Ivaskak Formation
Karolina Mattsson (MSc student)

The Ivashak Formation is the principal reservoir rock of the Prudhoe Bay oil field. This provenance investigation will correlate on-shore with off-shore data.

The Ivashak Formation is the main reservoir rock for the vast oil fields of Prudoe Bay, AK. Detrital zircon, a heavy mineral found in sediments, can be used to provide information about where the sediments of this formation come from (their provenance). Radiogenic dating of zircon using the LA‐ICP-MS technique will be used to correlate on-shore exposures of the Ivashak with well-studied off-shore deposits.
