Chemical analysis and tectonic setting of volcanic rocks from Henrietta Island
Jacob Brotherton (BSc student)

Microphotograph of volcanic rock from Henrietta Island.

The DeLong archipelago located between the Laptev and East Siberian seas are the last subaerial geologic exposures before reaching the Canada Basin. Consequently, they represent important geologic evidence for plate tectonic processes that have yet to be defined.  This investigation uses major and trace element geochemistry to constrain the tectonic setting of Henrietta Island in the DeLong chain. The analytical results indicate that it was part of an ocean island arc.
