U-Pb zircon dating of igneous and detrital samples from the Thalbah Group in Saudi Arabia

Conglomerates are incredible sample reservoirs because the clasts themselves provide a record of input.  Igneous clasts, as well as the sediment matrix, are used to constrain the age of sediment formation and to define the age of detritus input. From this information, we can determine whether the sediment is locally or regionally derived. This study concluded that the Thalbah Group sediments represent locally derived, recycled material.
